Re: Little things that run round your garage?

thanks onlyme.  i agree that tame mice, treated well don't bite and are affectionate creatures.  a similarly much maligned rodent, blamed for more than it is guilty of, is the rat.  there are rat fanciers who breed vari-coloured rats and report that they are affectionate, non-biters.
rodents as a species are vilified as vermin, yet their absence would be our loss as they clear so much detritus from our landscape.  if anything they are infinitely less harmful to the environment than are humans - a species to treat with extreme caution.

Re: Little things that run round your garage?

Couldn't agree with you more.  Domesticated rats are very sociable, they can be allowed to roam loose in the house, (keep the doors closed), they can be house trained with a litter tray and will come when you call them.  They do not smell or carry any diseases of their own, but they are vunerable to human coughs and colds.  They will sit on your lap to be petted and they enjoy sitting on your shoulder and going outside, once they are taught to be confident.  Just big mice really.  I think people are put off because they have long tails.  Don't buy a hamster for your children, get a rat.  One bad point, they will gnaw your wooden furniture unless they are taught not to; give them something else to chew!!
I think we've gone of the subject of this thread.  We were supposed to be getting rid of the creatures, not advocating them.  Undecided

If you bait a trap with milk chocolate (yup, say a quarter of a cube from a bar) you will find any local mice queing up for the chop.

So, How do you tell the difference, between a "large" mouse, and a "small" rat?

Different shape of face, different shape of body, scale of body to fur.
