Listening

The new thread here on the death of Donald Sinden, makes me think about those who can captivate you just by speaking about any subject.
Of course Donald Sinden, but Jos Ackland, Richard Burton and James Robertson Justice had or have wonderful speaking voices.
I can't think of too many actresses who could come even close in quality except perhaps Peggy Lee and Fenella Fielding.
Any more?

Re: Listening

To change tack slightly, while thinking there are not a lot of female celebrities and actresses with decent speaking voices <my guess its not their voices that are being assessed when entering the business> I can think of a few I'd rather not listen to, top of that list is the grating, shrill Alex Jones, quickly followed by Tess Daley.
Of men, I could never get on with; James Stewart always seemed to me speaking with a mouthful of cotton wool, and Gregory Peck must have one of the most boring, dull voices in showbiz, and a pretty wooden actor to boot.
Singers not allowed in these lists, unless they're also known as speakers.
@Mav agree with Mariella Frostrup
@dvorak and about Morgan Freeman, did speak well in "The Bucket List"

Re: Listening

Billy Connolly.
It's not so much how he says it (although I'm quite partial to a Scottish accent) but what he says.
Oh and David Attenborough

Brian Blessed wonderful, deep voice

It's a shame Ian Paisley is no longer with us.
I always wanted to see a shouting match between him and Brian.
