Lawnmower help

Hello
Fancied mowing the lawn and stupidly let the cable in front. Bang! Lawnmower had gone over the cable. Think I got a electric shock but I'm fine  Grin
However lawnmower isn't. The cable is severely damaged and by the look of it, it's not replaceable as simple as a Flymo.
I have a Bosch Rotak 340 ER. The mains cable is moulded to the mower, it's the one with the long black rubber.
I've attached some pictures below.
Does anyone know a solution? A replacement cable.  The mower is just coming up to 2 years old and don't want a replacement.
Many thanks  Smiley

Re: Lawnmower help

Just join the two cut ends of the cable together then you don't touch the connector to the plug or switch

Re: Lawnmower help

FYI: As it's a Bosch, if you ever want to order replacement parts you will need the Bosch 10 digit ID number of the information plate / sticker attached to the mower.
It will be something like: X XXX XXX XXX
Quoting a model number to Bosch or one of there repair agents will be met with the reply " whats the 10 digit Bosch ID number "

Re: Lawnmower help

Depending on how much cable is still attached to the motor end...... and how much "good" cable you have left.... you can use one of these...
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Electrical-Joiner-3-Way-5A-10A-In-line-Mains-Cable-Junction-Connector-BE10...
Simple.... just make sure that the brown wire connects to the brown wire, and the blue wire connects to the blue wire... if it has an earth wire... green and yellow, then obviously they shold also be joined  .
If you need a new cable... you can get one from B&Q  ( Probably ).... or search Ebay...  and you can get the length you want from this one....

Re: Lawnmower help

I doubt this will have an earth cable, most modern lawn mowers will be double insulated.

Are you sure it's moulded?

School boy error, done the same thing to my mower that was only about two years old. I just wired a new plug on the end that was left on the mower and binned the rest.

Re: Lawnmower help

Ouch, I make sure I do vertical cuts at a time and then turn off cutter and move all wires away for next cut and then go again. Its habit now

Re: Lawnmower help

I'll also say use one of the linked-to coupler plug & socket setups, cut the cable back about 12" (30CM) from where it enters the handle, wire the Male plug onto this section of cable, then if there's a sufficient amount of undamaged cable, snip off the damaged bit and wire that end of the cable to the Female socket and off you go again... Smiley
If the leftover cable's too short, pop a long to an electrical shop that supplies cable on the reel and make up a new cable... Smiley
Don't bother trying to get a new cable from the OEM, it'll be overpriced for what it is...

Re: Lawnmower help

I'd rather replace the entire cable as I'm not sure about joining the 2 ends together.

Re: Lawnmower help

It's considerably easier to fit a plug and socket than it is to replace the entire cable.  If you're not happy doing it then take it somewhere to get it repaired.
If you do fit a plug and socket, it's worth doing the same thing to other garden tools eg an electric strimmer as then you can swap tools easily and power them from the same cable.  Also, if you haven't, make sure you use an RCD in the supply to the tool.

Re: Lawnmower help

If you do use a cable connector,do make sure the female end comes from the mains end. With the male end from the mower.
This would be a safer option.
