quote.... from wikipedia on Mars bars...
"Who knows? In 1,000 years we could all be sitting on Mars eating Earth bars." – United Kingdom (a full-page advertisement placed in the official Guide Book for the Millennium Dome in 2000)
Maybe not so far from the truth after only 20 years ! ! ! ! .....

Cor Mars, reminds me of the film Total Recall.
I had an Amiga back at the time and was never very good at the game.

Earth bars; just don't sound as appetising 😐

Well jokes apart, the actual images we have seen so far really are something, but then I love all that sort of stuff.
I remember as a kid back in the 50s watching those black and white films of rockets complete with sparks coming out of the back reversing to land on places like Mars. Who'd have thought that years later that's exactly what the likes of Elon Musk and his SpaceX project are actually doing.
All clever stuff as they say.

I still vividly remember staying up all night to watch the moon landing in 1969. Nowadays that would be classed as short haul.

The way things advance will cause future generations to faint at the thought of that manual landing on the moon back in '69 with less half the technology of a smart watch and not unlike how we now think about those Vikings crossing the Atlantic using the stars to navigate and a bit of magnetic rock on a string for direction.
The mind boggles... well mine does anyway.

The Moon Landing was a bit before my time.
I remember my dad telling me he stayed up all night watching it. Mum was asleep.
That would be an evening where I would have watched it.

I remember standing in the street alongside family and neighbours late one night back in 1959.
We were waiting to see and hear the first rocket hit the moon. Uneventful but wildly exciting....

I recall some chap won a fair bit of money following a bet that man would land on the moon before 1970.
It’s amazing they have landed on Mars, on a clear night you can see Mars which just looks like a star in the sky.
Very hard to imagine Man will ever land on Mars and return safely, we are not made of the same stuff as space probes.
Predictions in the past thought we would have a moon base by 2020......That’s a long way off even now...2050 perhaps ?

Well they say man is only limited by his imagination but as far as space exploration is concerned and technology notwithstanding, he is also limited by money in much the same way as those explorers such as Scott, Shackleton and James Cook were.
What will turn it all on it's head is people like Elon Musk who has said he'll have someone on Mars by 2026 and a million by that 2050 you mentioned. Many doubt that timeframe but time will tell... not that I'll be around to see it in mine.
