Knob Throwing Still Popular

It's good to see that the knob throwing competition is still going strong.
Maybe it's my personal taste but I would rather throw them than eat them.
I'm only surprised that the contestants aren't issued with hard hats and safety goggles. Angry
Other events include a knob eating contest, knob darts, knob weighing, and knob painting.

This kind of thing is a pet hate, when it comes to wasting food
I have been in a position many years ago when I was homeless & living on the street (long story)
There are many hungry families not just the UK but WORLDWIDE that would be very grateful for a few grains of rice
Look at the famous money making act that gets all communities to raise / part with their hard earned cash after someone wasted goodness knows how many tins of beans in a bath / how much custard is wasted.
when thee food could be going to save lives of people that starve to death

Re: Knob Throwing Still Popular

It has to be down to balance.
Cost of food (if any) weighed against the amount of money raised for good causes.
Plus in the end the chickens get it.

Re: Knob Throwing Still Popular

There are many places in the world where a food fight would be most welcome.
Imagine not eating for 3 or 4 days then someone comes along and throws a big fat sandwich at you.
Bring it on!!!

They are most likely officials to make sure the food is fit for human consumption throwing

The ones with the brightly coloured tops are out in front so I guess they are the refs / officials.

Like TORPC I am uneasy with these competitions although the Dorset Knob throwing contest is, in my opinion, a fairly innocent pastime. At least the shattered remains of the biscuits are collected and fed to livestock.
What I do find, grossly offensive are those contests that involve eating the most of a particular food.
The thought of people competitively stuffing themselves with pies, hotdogs ice cream, etc. leaves me feeling nauseous and I find it unacceptable whether or nor it is done in the name of charity.
Of course, the USA, (where-else?)  excels in this disgusting display. - they even have an organisation dedicated to the 'sport.'
