Good to know we had a quick response from the RAF and Essex Police.  Stansted is of course specially prepared to accept planes involved in such incidents.
My one concern is the implications had the RAF shot the plane down as it was over densely populated areas.

I would believe they would lead the aircraft over sea and shoot down - at last resort

That's fine so long as the pilot followed instructions. If, however, it was a genuine incident he would be unlikely to.

Genuine incident - highly likely.
But I wonder why they made a detour over London - unless Mr Cameron's car needed a wing new mirror after he got pushed.

The plane was heading for Birmingham so a route over London is not unexpected.

The plane was travelling from Italy to Birmingham with a cargo of motor parts.
