Several areas in the North West now have reduced water pressure, with some having no water at all.
At least one school has closed due to lack of water.
A North West Water company are saying they may have to introduce a hosepipe ban next week.

We had a text from United Utilities to conserve water.....
So did a lot of customers, BBC colleague confirmed
(United Utilities answer to journalist:
Here, being just a few miles away, but also due to hot weather, our water pressure has reduced considerably
I expect it will return to normal after evening, once everyone has watered their lawns !!
Our lawns still show very moist, so had no need to water for several days now...
Lots of very interesting tweets from involved companies & personnel.

Did a Tesco Shop this morning at 6am.
As you entered Tesco, there were two very large cages, with a notice on the front, asking for food & water donations for the firefighters.
They were both nearly full.
And that's just from Sunday shoppers.
Apparently it's been like that all week.
I enquired what Tesco themselves were doing.... they said they are also donating large quantities of water and suitable food.
It looks like the fire on Saddleworth Moor may be coming under control
Winter Hill still needs a lot of attention.
And would you believe it, people have been spotted from the Helicopters setting fire to the moorlands !!

Fair enough @Browni
I agree and didn't mean to say it was - of course I hope they can get it under control and hope no buildings or people are hurt.

Whilst the Water companies are telling us to use less water, to avoid discontinued or restricted water supplies, and hosepipe ban, I am sure that they are secretly delighted at the amount of water being used, this gives rise to their income, and ultimately their profits.
Here in the North West, we don't have a hosepipe ban .... yet
In preparation, we have bolstered our home supply with 2 litre bottles of still water, in addition to our already stocks... just in case.
It surprises me, perhaps it doesn't, that people don't make pre-emptive arrangements, perhaps they just want free water !
The Tesco 2 litre bottles are just 16p each.
12 bottles, ie one large plastic box full, costs just under £2

@Anonymous I hope it does - I love the warm weather, but it's getting too hot. Even with all the windows and doors open, I am having to go and cool off in the cellar.

We have open windows with fly screens fully open at night, though after many hot days, the walls act like a large storage radiator, and I have noticed it is getting noticeably hotter inside daily.
Having really thick roof insulation doesn't help either upstairs.
We use reflector boards across sun facing windows, these do help quite a bit daytime.
An insulated picnic bag, with one frozen bottle and one fridge cold bottle provides some relief night time, lasts for hours.
Getting a bit fed up with Sandwiches and cold meals though !!
Nothing oven cooked for days.......
Perhaps a tent & sleeping bags in the garden is the answer ?
It is noticeably cooler downstairs, but couldn't settle.

Much cooler for a couple of days now........
And.....
We have Rain !!!
Not much as yet, though with heavy rain forecast overnight & Friday.
Saddleworth should be getting their fair share too, it's not too far away at all.
Firefighters still present, occasional flareups today.....
It'll be floods next, as the rain falls on solid ground.

The Met Office has issued a yellow warning of thunderstorms in the Greater Manchester area tomorrow, first time it's ever been raised apparently.
Now you're stuck with me because my new ISP doesn't run a forum

First time for Greater Manchester maybe, but first ever was issued at the end of June for SW England and Wales.

Yup @Browni
I remember that, didn't watch the Michael Fish bit as I was probably in bed. A much younger me back then (I would have been 10).
Remember my mum telling me about it.
Poor guy has never been able to live it down, even as bad as they showed a clip on the London 2012 opening ceremony.
