'Jo Swinson has been elected new leader of the Liberal Democrats, using her acceptance speech to appeal to disaffected Conservative and Labour MPs to join a party that she said was rising in the polls and ready again to compete for government'

My bold, but who remembers David Steel and his "Go back and prepare for government'

@Minivanman I'd get the thread title edited, if I were you.
As to who leads who, and the cow-pats they spout - who cares?

If you mean the title - I'm guessing her name could be Josephine, not Joseph.
If you mean my second comment - because she's a politician
Missed you edit - had to go elsewhere mid-composition.

A leadership election for the ludicrously named Liberal Democrats is like a leadership election for the Smurfs. They’re all alike, and nobody cares.

@Minivanman I think you got the name wrong...isnt it the Liberal NONdemocrats. If they were democrats wouldnt they be following the democratic will of the majority. At least the SNP are trying to uphold the will of the majority of the scots people so have some sort of mandate! The Libs are supposed to represent the whole of the UK if they had they might have ended up with more than 11 or 12 MP's

It looks like voters have forgotten the "No tuition fees" promise the LibDems made in 2010 just before their leader was seduced into government by Mr Cameron and helped him introduce tuition fees.
We now have:
LibDem for the Remainers
Labour for those wanting a Second referendum
The Brexit Party for those wanting Brexit
The Conservative Party for ... ?

Very well said. It also applies to politicians in other parties who having given us a say and agreed to abide by the outcome who now think that they know best and are doing everything in their power to oveturn Brexit.
Their discraceful behaviour has destroyed any trust in politicians and made Britain an international joke.
Years ago I used to travel regularly on business and if asked I was always proud to say I was British. Today I would be ashamed and embarrassed.

What trust? Politicians regularly promise whatever they need to get your vote then deny they said anything of the sort. The second problem is that most people believe them!

I did not get the name wrong, it's what they called themselves, in fact anybody that included the word democratic in their name I would view with the utmost suspicion.
