James Bond no longer breaks the speed limit in UK...

Spies will no longer be deemed to be breaking the law when speeding if national security is at stake.
Quote
Britain’s spies might have a licence to kill, but they risk losing their licence to drive if they are caught speeding – until now.
Rules which mean the secret services, bomb disposal units and organ transplant deliveries have to stick to the speed limit are to be torn up.
Changes to motoring laws mean officers in MI5 and MI6 will be able to break speed limits when national security is at stake.

I thought organ transport deliveries were allowed to break the speed limit or frequent had police escorts that did Undecided

Re: James Bond no longer breaks the speed limit in UK...

even with a plod escort your not allowed to speed unless instructed to do so by the plod themselves.......even when driving a blue light vehicle responding to an emergency, a stupid rule that so long as the driver has passed the blue light course should never have applied (many years ago that was a big problem for Emergency response vehicles when they had a military driver unless of course the chief constable of the area had signed a waiver for you individually....)
btw only an idiot would want to break the rules with blue lights on if they haven't actually undertaken the correct courses, although now at least dash cams should be able to stop frivolous claims against anyone who ends up in an RTA in the futureSmiley

Re: James Bond no longer breaks the speed limit in UK...

Idiots.. only idiots could wave through something like this.
Moons ago some bloke was posing as an agent from MI5. He had a 4x4 BMW with flashing blue lights fitted, fake MI5 ID, fake weapons etc.
One day on the motorway he got annoyed with another driver. Switched on his blue lights and tugged them. Called the REAL police and had them arrest him showing the police his FAKE MI5 identification. Not knowing what genuine MI5 ID would look like the police took it as gospel and nicked the other driver while Mr Fantasy drove away on his merry way.
This guy kept a yacht moored up and to convince some people who he really was used to show them the fake weapons in the boot of his car.
It was all utter tripe. He ran into financial trouble and from memory a few people called MI5 trying to get hold of him. Needless to say it wasn't long before he was raided, busted and jailed. Even under questioning by the rozzers he apparently tried to continue persuading them he was legit  Crazy
Seriously if the rozzers have no idea what real spy ID looks like this is going to be a really dodgy move.

Re: James Bond no longer breaks the speed limit in UK...

not really the vehicles with the flashy lights would have home office plates so be rather simple for anpr/smarts to check them out, if some trader is selling the lights to less than genuine customers they get jailed as well so really the only problem is idiot coppers, btw MI5/MI6 used to have warrant cards the same as the cops did with a hologram stripe through it, they got updated in the digital era and I haven't seen one in the last few years but I'm fairly certain there still just as difficult to fake.
of course you cant get past idiots and its entirely possible that some people lack the training to correctly identify things ......

Re: James Bond no longer breaks the speed limit in UK...

A mate of mine occasionally does the Polling Officer (think that’s correct but please do let me know if I’ve got the name of the post wrong as it’d be interesting) and he always said that when he’s taking the votes received to the Polling station to count them that he’s effectively above the law and can certainly break all driving laws. I guess,  in reality, that he’d have to have a blooming good reason to, for instance, shoot a red light
WTF

There were a lot of MI5 agents on the M4 this morning .. at least, for the 0.5 miles anyone could get above 50
