Is your *.google.com in german?

Over the last few days whenever i visit google.com or youtube.com everything has been written in german. .co.uk seems to be unaffected.
I'd hazard a guess that they've got their country detection a bit messed up but i thought i'd check here to see if anyone else is having the same issue.

Re: Is your *.google.com in german?

I just tried testing 'google'.com' to see whether mine comes up in German.
Well no German appeared, BUT the address now immediately changes to 'google.co.uk'
Until today I have been able to use either 'google.com' or 'google.co.uk' depending on what I wanted to search for, now I am forced to only use 'google.co.uk' !

Re: Is your *.google.com in german?

That's interesting purleigh - at one time if I entered "google.com" in the address bar I'd also be diverted to google.co.uk. The only way to get .com was to use the "Go to Google.com" link on the co.uk page.
Currently though I can access google.com directly.  Huh

Re: Is your *.google.com in german?

google.com has taken me to .co.uk for so long now that I can't remember when that started.

Re: Is your *.google.com in german?

What ever country your ISP is located will determine your local Google.  If you are in the UK, Google.com will default to google.co.uk, and so on for other countries. So if your ISP is located in Germany, Google will default to google.de

Re: Is your *.google.com in german?

I had this issue a few years ago, suddenly all my google searches were in ITALIAN (bennie ?)
I had to contact the google support (on the home web page) and tell them my IP address and I was def. in the UK. It was fixed within a couple of days.

There had to be a way to set your language. If I moved to France and hence had a French IP I'd still want Google in English!

Re: Is your *.google.com in german?

I know that on the 29th April that 'google.com' was not redirecting me to 'google.co.uk'.  Sad
I know this because a couple of Ubuntu releases ago something happened where the default Firefox search bar changed from your local Google to always going to 'google.com', and in order to get around this problem I had to install an alternative google UK search Firefox add-in.  So last Friday (29th) I did a clean install of the latest version of Ubuntu (11.04 "Natty Narwhal") and was disappointed to find the same problem was present, and worse still the google UK add-in appears to be no longer available.  Therefore I specifically added a bookmark toolbar tab to specifically take me to 'google.co.uk' search page to ensure I get only UK <shopping> results, etc.
So whatever is going on has actually solved my most frequent google problem, in that I usually want UK search results,  but introduces a new problem for when I want to search US or global sites - as this default override business is preventing me from getting the results I am trying to find.

Re: Is your *.google.com in german?

Hmm, i'm now having this problem in phpmyadmin too for mysql databases on my host.
I reckon PN have bought up a block of IPs formerly known as german.
I'm currently on 87.114.183.*

Re: Is your *.google.com in german?

From what I can see on whois that is part of a long standing Plusnet IP block.

Re: Is your *.google.com in german?

Ok, this problem is back.. and its getting annoying now.
Just went to have a look at Openstreetmap (which i saw in another thread in chit chat) and its all coming up in german.
I've uninstalled the only plugin that was installed at the time it was happening and its still doing it. These are the headers sent:

Re: Is your *.google.com in german?

Ok, you can ignore this inherent rambling now.. i've solved it.
In the headers this was being sent: af-ZA,af; (afrikaans and something else). I've just found the language settings in seamonkey and removed them (any ideas how they even got there seeing as i only speak english??) and hit refresh. Openstreetmap came up in english again!
Hooray! It seems i've solved it!
