Is this site dodgy or alright?

I have just ordered a Christmas tree basket skirt of this website
http://www.artificialchristmastree.co.uk
Product - http://www.artificialchristmastree.co.uk/product/detail/artificialchristmastree-basket
Minimum spend had to be 25GBP so I ordered some lights that will just be chucked out.  I also just noticed that my order will be coming from The Netherlands

The general rule of thumb is that if it looks dodgy, it probably is, avoid at all costs IMO.

Re: Is this site dodgy or alright?

you can always ring them up and ask...
use the telephone numbers on this page....
http://www.artificialchristmastree.co.uk/contact.html
"Just phoning up to see if your site is dodgy... and will I ever see the products I have paid for, being delivered in the UK.? "
Or.... ( Dutch ).
"Gewoon bellen omhoog om te zien of uw site dodgy is... en ik de producten die ik heb betaald voor, verlost te worden in het Verenigd Koninkrijk ooit zal zien.? "

Unlikely unless he said he was a business reselling them.
But a bit dodgy a Dutch site using a .co.uk address.  Angry

Re: Is this site dodgy or alright?

Sorry, I should have said Import Tax which, as far as I know, is the same rate as VAT.

Doh, silly me - of course  Embarrassed
My excuse is I've only bought software from the States which has always had VAT applied.

Re: Is this site dodgy or alright?

Site is registered to a company in the Netherlands so they don't appear to be trying to hide who they are.
I've had Chinese companies setup .co.uk and fraudulently trading with fake items but they are a lot more covert about their registration details.

PayPal as I know what these sites can be like. So if any problems I just raise a query and get my money back  Cool

Even outside the EU you can only be charged VAT once.
A old mate of mine went to the states moons ago with the lads, bought a load of electricals and came back over here with them. Customs naturally wanted to have the lot of them for vat and hauled all of them aside to be interviewed because they'd tried to go through without declaring the items.
Then the lads pulled out their receipts for VAT that they had paid in the USA (don't ask me the details, I don't know them explicitly). I remember him laughing across the whole office about how the customs blokes lost their rag because they couldn't do a thing about it and had to let them go lol.
Bottom line is if you paid your VAT, you've paid it. Apparently it doesn't matter to who as long as it's paid.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: Is this site dodgy or alright?

I've just been refunded the total paid price. Didn't say why - probably the items I needed were out of stock Sad
It was a Christmas Tree basket skirt and I can't find anywhere else that's in stock!!
