Is the Eurovision song contest a contradiction in terms

?
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Eurovision song contest...... much like a football match..... lots of inflated ego`s deflated when the votes (result) comes in, and nobody remembers who came second !

My "O"-level Geography is failing me.
I always thought I knew the boundaries of Europe. West of the Urals and Caspian Sea etc.
Now, Turkey is pushing it a bit, but part of it IS in Europe (though not the capital city) but Israel and Cyprus?
And I hear Egypt is joining soon - isn't it in Africa?

Egypt? I think the last time they got involved with the Europeans, there was a slight disagreement over some canal or something ? ? ?

Re: Is the Eurovision song contest a contradiction in terms

I think the eurovision is a total waste of time to be honest. Its politically fixed, you get non euro countries in it competing, Ireland and England are always complimenting each other to keep the peace etc...
Plus it takes up something stupid like 3 hours of TV time which could be used for a damn good film!
I say scrap the flippin thing!
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Not counting the programmes to chose the UK entry and two 2-hour semi-finals this week on BBC3. (Still with BBC3 I don't suppose anything worthwhile was displaced).

Re: Is the Eurovision song contest a contradiction in terms

/My original point was;
It's not a competition (dealt with comprehensively by okrzynska)
So far, nobody has commented on the "quality" of the songs.
My guess is that UK will be amongst those who fail to qualify next year. Or is there some rule that provides that the founder members get a bye into the final? Personally I think Italy had the right idea.
