Is it too early to put those Christmas lights up outside the house.
Dark times abound and it must be tempting to add some light to our lives but no, in our house we going to hang on as we always have until November is out of the way.
Twinkle twinkle, but not quite yet.

Yes, but there are several around here been lit up for a few days.
Nothing OTT though. All in the best possible taste, as Kenny Everett used to say.

Early tree early needles all over the floor so we leave buying one until about a week before, that way we don't have brown twigs in a tub by the time the Twelfth Night arrives.
As for lights never overboard, just a few twinkling around the front door and that's it.

Being cheapskates... we bought a £80 multicoloured led lit tree for £20 a few years back.. dig it out each crimbo, stick it in the window, plug it in at night... job done... does for the "outside" appearance and also for the indoors ambience ...
Missus used to "go mad" at Christmas... decorating every.. (yes, incl the bathroom). room like this...
And ..... TWO real trees... dressed like this....
Thank goodness we moved to a smaller place... ! ! ..
We are too old to be doing that now, anyway... ! !

There are advantages to being an atheist.

Less is more in our house, and even more so since the kids have flown the nest.
The Mrs still insists on getting a real one and I still moan about the cost but to be fair, there really is nothing like a sniff of pine to bring in the smell of Christmas.
As said, a few lights (on a timer) around the porch that switch off at midnight and a freshly made wreath with ribbon on our front door.
We still have the same tiny plastic fairy we bought for our very first Christmas together, it still gets stuck on top of the tree each year... and I still moan about 50p she paid for it and which has now become a bit of a standing joke between us.
Christmas is not just for Christians thank the Gods. 🙂

A nearby small town shopping area put their little Christmas trees up all over the buildings in early November.
I guess they fitted it in when they could not knowing exactly what the future holds as this was a lot earlier than they usually do it.

Desperate to attract customers maybe?
Some of these small town businesses are in for the long haul. As if it's not been bad enough for them over the last few years and pubs apart, the only ones that seem to be keeping their heads about water are take-aways that because of Covid have fast become deliver-aways.
Been interesting to see just how the market adapt.
