1. So if you sign up for Camerons filter you could try to access a few thousand web sites and he will tell you which ones a paedophile would want to look at.
2. Ring Plusnet to get the filter removed.
3. Peruse the sites that Cameron recommends.
Cameron shoots himself in the foot. Smiley

Re: Is all 18+ "Adult Content" Blocked/Censored on Plusnet?

From my reading on the subject in other threads I thought that when an ISP starts to implement the filtering that it would only affect new users.
Have I misunderstood?

that it would only affect new users

I could say that as new plusnet users only pay a quarter of the price it's only fair they should only get a quarter of the internet.
But that would just make me look bitter and twisted. Sad

Re: Is all 18+ "Adult Content" Blocked/Censored on Plusnet?

This doesn't really bother me but as a moderator I like to see what everyone is complaining about
I followed this link http://www.ispreview.co.uk/index.php/2014/01/uk-isp-plusnet-replace-mcafee-security-network-level-fi... and to say the least I am absolutely appalled.
Either ispreview have got it all wrong or some idiot thinks that a network filter is the same thing as an Internet Security package
Now I don't think much of McAfee but replacing it with a network filter is absolutely stupid

McAfee includes some Parental Control functionality.  It isn't the same as a network level solution obviously, but if you are only needing to protect a couple of Windows machines, it's an option.  You still need to educate and monitor activity, but you need to do that with a network level control as well.

I wish you could just keep the McAfee instead... it should be a parents responsibility to set Parental Controls!
Only 26% of British households have children (of ages 16 & under) living in them... yet we all have to suffer, this is madness!  Crazy

I suggest you think again about that answer
A network level filter won't pick up a download from a normally good site which has a trojan nor will it pick up a similar thing from an email or indeed from a USB stick
As far as I am concerned a network level solution instead of a good anti virus is a total no no
If it is the intention that Plusnet decide to stop providing a "free" anti virus and only a network level filter then that needs to be made clear to all the users who rely on it as otherwise a whole lot of customers will find themselves without adequate protection

You're muddling it up.  A network level parental control won't replace an anti virus solution.  It's just the Mcafee product currently includes some device side protections.

Re: Is all 18+ "Adult Content" Blocked/Censored on Plusnet?

I am not
This is from the linked article
Quote
It’s arguably the least surprising development of the year. Broadband ISP PlusNet has confirmed that it intends to follow BT’s example (parent company) and launch their own network-level Internet filter to block (censorship) adult and piracy websites, which will most likely replace its bundled McAfee security solution.
This is what we are  discussing

I'd never noticed that in the article.  They are misunderstanding.  They'd be complementary.
