Is The PC Dead?

I was prompted to ask this question after reading an article on CNN - http://edition.cnn.com/2013/04/29/tech/gaming-gadgets/are-pcs-dead/index.html
I guess I'm old fashioned, I use a Windows PC & really dislike touch devices - I've tried laptops but hate trackpads, if I have to use a laptop then a mouse must be connected Smiley
Hopefully the above poll has not been run before (?)

Re: Is The PC Dead?

What about those of us that have and use several devices for browsing?

Yes, need a 'multiple choice' here please.

Re: Is The PC Dead?

Well I've amended it to 'mainly' use - otherwise I think the list will get too long. Really I'm just interested to see 'PC or another device' to see if the PC really is dead Smiley

Re: Is The PC Dead?

My PC isn't dead, but I am using it less and less since I got an android tablet.

Re: Is The PC Dead?

They're not dead, but would say they're inconvenient, unnecessary for many and underutilised by many that do have them.
I haven't had a desktop for years, and wouldn't give one house room these days. I still have a laptop but only really gets booted up for things I can't, or is inconvenient to do on other devices, like video and photo editing for example

Desktop PC here!
Although I have an iPad and an iPhone, I still prefer to use a mouse!

Re: Is The PC Dead?

I love my WhisperPC (http://shop.whispersystems.co.uk/) & use it with an Eizo SX2462W monitor to edit photos taken with my Canon 5D camera (try doing that on a iPad/iPhone etc!). I like the concept of portability, but the best I can do is a Kindle Smiley
Also I'd rather watch iplayer on a decent monitor rather than a (shiny) ipad!

Re: Is The PC Dead?

I can't see me ever giving up the PC as I can't imagine any laptop or other touch device being powerful enough for HD video editing!
.
What I do envisage is the cost of parts for self-builds rising as the demand falls  Cry

Definitely agree with that sentiment. Hate the touch pads with a vengeance Roll eyes
I do have a laptop which I mainly use for OU stuff and occasionally take out with me if I expect to take lots of photos/video and I may need to edit/post these on my travels.

Re: Is The PC Dead?

Maybe I should have also asked if you mainly use a PC what is your age group! Perhaps a future poll (I hope it is not only the oldies over 40 using PC's Smiley  )
