Iranian embassy Siege April 30th, 1980

I remember watching the Siege Live

The events transfixed you to the TV..

The siege finally came to an end over the Bank Holiday weekend.

It became personal for me shortly afterwards, when Sim Harris, the hostage BBC Sound man, became a colleague at  another TV company.

Lots of chats about the events, even some humorous moments.......

At one point the hostages received their usual food parcels, one of them contained a note secreted amongst the Sandwiches.....

Was it a warning they were about to be released by the SAS ?....... NO

It was a note from one of the TV News Crews, "Keep it up Sim, we are all on overtime out here !"

I remember watching it too. You are correct, it was memorising.

i'm not sure the dail mail have grasped what a "playboy lifystyle" actually is.
according to them it seems to be living off benefits and being on disablity, going to the job centre whilst living in peckham of all places!

hugh heffner must be so jealous!

Re: Iranian embassy Siege April 30th, 1980

At the time of the seige in St James Square, SHMBO was working in an adjacent office (right angles to the Iranian embassy) and had a very good but brief view of the events. But was soon hustled away from the windows and shortly after was sent home using the back doors to get to the tube station.

It is forgotten how long she was away from work.

Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

The man has served his time and should be left alone without the gutter press hounding him.

@petlew  I think you are talking about the Libyan People's Bureau in 1984.  The Iranian Embassy is in Princes Gate.

Advice:  It's not a good idea to get her age wrong by four years in the 'wrong' direction. Laugh
