Internet Explorer help!

Hi,
I went to my local tip to dump some stuff that we no longer needed.  Once I was their, I saw a innocent looking Dell PC that someone had left.  I've decided to bring it home and clean it all out.  It booted up all effortlessly (well a little slow) and reset the entire system to factory (for security reasons) and freshly reinstalled XP (home edition)  Now I'm stuck with the old horrible internet explorer when XP was released.  When I try to google Internet Explorer 8 (latest for XP) I get bounced out by Microsoft telling me I MUST upgrade my operating system or computer.
I am looking to download IE8 from a different source, but fear of downloading a virus.

Re: Internet Explorer help!

That is probably as you haven't installed all the XP service packs

I'm on service pack 2 at the mo.
What's the latest, and where do I source them from?

Re: Internet Explorer help!

You need SP3
Doesn't windows update do it if you run it manually
Otherwise this is a starting point http://windows.microsoft.com/en-GB/windows/help/learn-how-to-install-windows-xp-service-pack-3-sp3

Hi,
