Re: International diplomacy

I wouldn't confuse the international diplomacy skills of Cherie Blair with those of Bill Clinton

Nice job Bill!

North Korean leader Kim Jong-il has issued a special pardon to two detained US journalists, the country's state news agency reports.
Laura Ling and Euna Lee had been found guilty of entering illegally in March.
The news comes hours after former US President Bill Clinton made an unannounced visit to Pyongyang on what was described as a private mission.

Re: International diplomacy

Indeed - nice one Bill
But as you may have guessed - I didn't mean to equate Mrs Blair in any real way with Mr Clinton -
I don't think Hilary Clinton could have done it either. Very clever choice Mr Obama

Yes, Bill did well.  I wonder who else could have pulled that off.

Re: International diplomacy

I think you're right about maggie but I was thinking of someone in the spotlight today.
As for Carter, he did have his own hostage crisis which some say cost him the presidency to Regan.

Re: International diplomacy

perhaps the release had already been arranged in exchange for a visit from 'a person of substance'?

Re: International diplomacy

I'm sure the Americans would have sussed the ground out.  Up until yesterday they were saying Clinton's visit was purely a private one so there was a get out for him if nothing was arranged.
Now that the news has broke it appears Obama was also involved as was Al Gore.

And just what what was that aircraft - a plane white one - no markings - but then the US government has plenty of them at their disposal .

Re: International diplomacy

I assumed it may have been one of the presidential fleet.  Could be one they use to fly prisoners around the world Wink
