Interesting tidbits of news (non-political lol)

Thought I would start this thread for those random `tidbits of news` which although
interesting are not of any particular political interest :-

George Washington's $300,000 library book fine
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/8627835.stm
Seems Mr. Washington borrowed himself a couple of books in 1789 :
"Law of Nations,"  and a volume of debate transcripts from our House of Commons,
but failed to return them.
His fine now equates to £195,000 in our currency.
Tut-tut....  naughty man.

Just to add abit more interest to this thread - George Washington`s grandmother:
Mildred Gale was in fact a British lady from Whitehaven on the West Coast of Cumbria,
and was buried in the church yard of St. Nicholas church in Whitehaven :-

Re: Interesting tidbits of news (non-political lol)

how did they get from Cumbria to Essex?  http://www.visitessex.com/discover/historic/american-connection/default.aspx
Quote
Essex was a strong recruiting ground for the Colonies. Descendants from many of the county's families particularly those originating in Dedham, Chelmsford and Braintree are listed. The Sherman family traced its descendants as founders of Rhode Island, while another was General W T Sherman of the American Civil War. Braintree produced John Adams, the second president and his son who became the sixth. Presidential connections are found in Purleigh where Lawrence, the great-great grandfather of the first American president, George Washington, was minister during the mid-1660s. Lawrence is buried in Maldon's All Saints Church. Ancestors of the present Bush family can be found at Messing and Feering from the 14th century. Reynold Bush emigrated during the 1630s, possibly on The Lyon.

Well I imagine they must have sailed.
Cumbria has a few connections to America.....  the rum trade...  tobacco.....
and not to mention how John Paul Jones attempted the last known invasion of
the U.K. mainland, when he scaled the walls of Whitehaven apparently lol.
There`s quite abit on the net about the Cumbria-U.S. connection.

This is interesting - non-political - and certainly amusing...

Father banned from driving for three years after getting behind the wheel of a toy Barbie car while drunk
A father-of-four has been banned from driving for three years after getting behind the wheel of a toy car when drunk.
Paul Hutton, 40, was over the legal alcohol limit when he climbed into the seat of a 4ft by 2ft electric Barbie car, which has a top speed of just 4mph.
A police patrol car spotted the 6ft-tall former RAF aeronautical engineer crammed behind the steering wheel crawling

Personally I feel sorry for his child, given that he trashed the car!

JOKE for you......
A father went xmas shopping - intent on buying his young daughter a Barbie doll for xmas.
He went into a toyshop and began to look at the various Barbie dolls on display.
One doll in particular was far more expensive than all the others.....  and this left him feeling somewhat confused.
Whilst he was still pondering over this, the Manager of the store came over to him and asked :
`Do you require any help Sir?`
`Well, yes I could do with some advice`  said the father.
`Go ahead` - said the Manager.
Picking up the most expensive Barbie doll`  - the father asked :  `Why is this one almost twice as expensive as all the
others?`
Without hesitation the Manager responded :  `That one Sir, is `Divorce Barbie`
The manager smiled as he continued to explain :    `You see sir, if you buy that one, you will also get Ken`s car....
and Ken`s house - and that is why it is expensive`

This was posted by my daughter on her wall on FaceBook.
I thought it was good.

Whatever you give a woman, she will give you greater,

Give her sperm she will give you a baby,
Give her a house, she'll give you a home,
Give her groceries, she'll give you a meal.
Give her a smile and she'll give you her heart,

She multiplies and enlarges whatever she is given,
so give her c*** then be ready to recieve a ton of s***!

Are we not allowed to use `astricks` in lieu of alphabet letters?
If not...  it wasnt intentional, & in which case: I do apologise.
I have seen a few posts where I read the word `censored` and
I assum that was because posters had actually typed offensive
words.

Santiago,
its saying that whatever a man gives to a woman,
then the woman will always give him something
better in return  (including if he starts to give her
trouble... and in which case she`ll give him double
the amount of trouble back!)
get it lol?  good  Roll eyes    (only joking)

WR52, not really sure, but often a mod will say trying to avoid the censor when a post says carp instead of you know what, Dont worry to much but it was a bit near the knuckle (and not picked up)
