Insurance "Loading" of extras

Just been renewing my car insurance online - new provider and cheapest I could find.
Went to the Pay bit and the premium jumped by £4/month I thought WHAT!!! Small print "press this*" to remove the automatic legal cover  Sad
Now if I had wanted legal cover I would have selected it during the quote, but nope it appeared at the BUY NOW and AGAIN after I removed it on the following page offering Legal & breakdown cover.  Tongue
*On clicking the remove a message box popped up - the wording was so that I thought I was removing it and I was actually agreeing to having it  Crazy It took me 3 goes to remove it as I did the same the second time. Shocked

Re: Insurance "Loading" of extras

I'm currently with Hastings Direct with renewal due early next month.
I had a different online quote experience than the OP. My original quote was for Comprehensive without Legal Cover or Key Cover. Selecting Buy now then Continue gave me the option of adding them.
As per usual I do quotes with and without full NCD to see what I'm offered:
So far I couldn't find details of what discount is offered by HD or The AA.
Direct Line offer 70% for 9 years or more: My quote without NCD was £649.78 and with NCD was £289.38. Even catering for the Legal Cover of around £27.00 that's nowhere near the 70%!
