Independence Day is a federal holiday in the US.
In the United States, Independence Day, or more commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday to commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on 4 July 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain.
Anyone celebrating over here in the UK ?
Watch out for very large Spaceships !!
Independence Day (1996)
Fri, Jul 4 · 18:15-21:00 · Film4
A fleet of huge flying saucers launches a devastating and unprovoked attack on Earth.
As survivors try to flee the seemingly unstoppable alien invaders, the courageous US president, an ace pilot and a computer genius come up with a plan to take the fight to the enemy and save the human race.
Worth recording & watching again...

It's American... and as far as I know, Great Britain is not America, thank goodness!

ahh but its also British history and we should celebrate the fact that the right outcome was achieved for the right reasons and that something akin to the goosestep of doom wasn't perpetrated by the crown onto what is the largest single nation, that the good graces of the commanders in the field ruled with steady heads and capitulated instead of wasting further lives is certainly something to be celebrated (regardless of how long ago it was) in spite of the vagaries of the then monarch.....
that we should celebrate the occasion for different reasons to those who gained there freedom from oppression is however a different matter and one that should be taught to every man woman and child in this nation just as it is taught to them overseas ......

We have friends in Charleston (Beautiful place, quite fascinating actually) I hadn’t realised this was happening; thanks for the ‘head’s up’.
Our young daughter usually Facetime’s our friend's daughter but she’s away on summer camp as the school term finishes earlier over there. Looks like we’ll have to do the Facetiming ourselves.
As it happens, we’re off to a 4ht July party tonight. One of our group of friends is over here at the moment staying with mutual friens.
Does anyone know of an atypical American aperitif for us to take along? I’m thinking Vermouth?

Vermouth Cassis
Fill a small, stemmed glass with ice. Add 3 ounces dry vermouth and ¾ ounce crème de cassis. Stir gently. Garnish with a lemon twist.
