i presume most here will not visit these sites , but it cant be a good idea to use your credit card as age verification Shocked

this will lead to loads of problems , so what the thoughts of people here ?

Re: ISP blocking porn sites

credit cards are often used for age verification (on many things).
the process being that it charges 1p (or whatever nominal amount) to validate that the card is real and then refunds it.

Re: ISP blocking porn sites

So what is to stop a under age person accessing these sites via a vpn service ?

Unless of course the next step is for isp's to block vpn's

In short there is always a way around these things.

Most likely children will have access to mum or Dads credit card without their permission and use it.

Re: ISP blocking porn sites

Shouldn't the parents have 'Parent Controls' set up and activated? I'm not saying it will stop them in their tracks, but it will make things more difficult.

Re: ISP blocking porn sites

At present parental controls won't work for kids who use their phone Internet connections too though admittedly that will change with ISPs blocking porn.

Re: ISP blocking porn sites

most mobile networks already have "adult" content blocking, which can be disabled by confirming you are over 18 (usually using the credit card method).

Re: ISP blocking porn sites

from @dvorak  link

The age verification companies appear under no special obligation to secure the data, in spite of calls for this. If any are outside the UK they may not even have the Data Protection Act to consider.

Free porn sites are simply not covered by the legislation anyway, so what is the point.

Too many pitfalls with this Sad

Surely this should be down to the parents not to Gov and ISP,s  , my yougest 15 his phone is blocked from Adult content , his laptop is via my router .

but it does not stop him reciving files from his friends

Re: ISP blocking porn sites

and it doesn't help that the PN safeguard / surf/ whatever *still* doesn't work with a static IP!

I agree it should be up to parents to educate and monitor

Re: ISP blocking porn sites

Credit cards to verify identity? If that happens how will I get my quota of porn?

Not having one (now) I couldn't even buy a knife on ebay as like many I just have the necessary sensible debit card.

No doubt this is all part of the governments attempt to combat terrorism get total control of UK citizens use of the internet.

Re: ISP blocking porn sites

While i agree that children should be shielded from viewing porn why are people fixated on that where there is probably just as much violence available to be seen on TV, in games, etc, along with a fair amount of drug-taking being depicted?

As for restrictions they should be used to supplement parental/guardian responsibilities and not replace them.

Re: ISP blocking porn sites

To be honest i don't see what half the fuss is about.

When i was a kid we all knew what it was about. When I was 10 me and couple of mates stumbled on a discarded dirty mag in the local park. As far as we were concerned we'd struck pure gold! So many lovely looking ladies lol.

You raise a good point and one that i'd forgotten about. Makes me wonder why bother though? - Many folks can get at it via wifi sharing or some other arrangement and seeing as the mobile connection has usually been pre-paid by youngsters i don't really see that its the mobile operators business to then intervene afterwards and start filtering content. I'd completely forgotten that i faced a restriction myself years ago until reading your comment.

Re: ISP blocking porn sites

I think there's a world of difference between hard core porn and a mag, the impact it has on youngsters is well documented.
