I need your brains and maybe your hands to type too :-)

Evening all, I need some help.
We have a quiz to do which is a nursery rhyme anagram quiz and we are stuck on 4 so if you're bored with the football any help would be greatly appreciated. Names of nursery rhymes and the number of words in the anagram bares no resemblance to the number of words in the title.

a warmer gassy weed
try hold a dungeon forke ok
ebbed greenery howls hurt humour - [edit: got one] here we go round the mulberry bush
gorier signorinas

thanks again and have fun  Smiley

Re: I need your brains and maybe your hands to type too :-)

The 4th one, gorier signorinas, must be the Irish version of Ring a ring o' rosies!
Not a very good clue as there are so many different versions of this nursery rhyme.
See here for some of the versions!

Obviously these anagrams are clear to somebody who works at PN because they are so young they will remember the rhymes better! Grin Grin
I actually was going to suggest "see saw Margery Daw" but got beaten to it  by a youngster! Roll eyes

Re: I need your brains and maybe your hands to type too :-)

The link to wikipedia shows an extract,
Quote
Ring a ring a Rosie,
A bottle full of posie,
All the girls in our town
Ring for little Josie.

Is that anything to do with you Josie?
Has the rhyme any connection with the plague ? Not you Josie!
I seem to remember that it has something to do with people carrying a sweet smelling posie to act as a defence against the scourge. Hence the reference to atishoo, atishoo we all fall down.
Edit to add the last sentence.
Another edit ---- On reading a lot further in Wikipedia there is a mention of the plague connection.
By the way 'Good health everyone'

It says that is a American version - here of course we have "atishoo atishoo, all fall down" as the last 2 lines.............. Tongue

because of the plague causing folk to sneeze...............

Re: I need your brains and maybe your hands to type too :-)

According to Mr Stephen Fry, in his Book of General Ignorance, the whole connection with the plague goes all the way back to 1961.  Undecided
And the earliest record of it being sung is only 1790.

Brilliant thanks everyone!
We didn't know there was an Irish spelling of rosies, that's just cheating
Also it has to be the grand old duke of york but there is a d missing i think, still it's written and entered.
If we win you can all come and join in the prize of a days bouncy castle hire  Grin

yeah i remember that case, we'd only be having 3-5's on it (unless you lot wanted to come ;-) ) so there shouldn't be a big an age range as in that story.
Plus all the parents would have to sign a waiver and be there i think..
