Obviously car parking is a non-issue for most of you so what do you think could be done to improve things?

Re: I'm just going to leave this here..

A number of things could be done,

1. Increase the number of training places for Doctors, Nurses and other Health care staff by stopping all these unnecessary degree course people are taking and replace them with courses for medical staff.

2. Stop the large sums of money trained staff have to pay to practice, ie Hundreds of pounds nurses have to pay to the UKCC on a regular basis or the fees Doctors have to pay for insurance cover.

3.Reverse the plan to cancel bursaries for nurses in training

4. Ensure far more nurse training is spent in hospitals rather than in universities.

5. All hospitals should offer a creche facility with low charges for staff

That's for starters..... Lots more things if you think about them, ask the staff.

And yes parking is one but a small thing compared to many others, I suspect pay rise, pensions and career prospects are top of the list

I disagree with this one for similar reasons to yourself in the other thread. Other people have to pay for this, why should medical staff be any different? Further having it on site only increases the risks of the germs that little children may be exposed to.

Also nurses have to be registered with the NMC. Not heard of the UKCC but i don't recall my partner having to register with them whoever they are.

exactly, but then why should medical staff have special treatment for parking?
shouldn't they have the same treatment as everyone else?

In that tone why should the police, fire brigade or ambulance service have their vehicles kept on site?

Lets not go round this circle again.. I get it that you're all against doctors and nurses being available conveniently. I'm not going to bother fighting it anymore.

Re: I'm just going to leave this here..

do they? do they have to pay for on-site parking? or do they just park in spaces that available to park in?
hardly like for like.

and the point about parking is an obvious one to bring up as you don't want medical staff getting special treatment in one instance but you do in others. think you need to make up your mind what side of the fence you are on.

clearly your "other half" has had a fine for parking and this is your current "bugbear"

Re: I'm just going to leave this here..

@gleneagles and @7up:  The UKCC superseded the GNC in 1983 and was in turn replaced by the NMC in 2002.  The annual fee is £120, on which the nurse is entitled to tax relief, so in most cases it costs £96, so not quite "hundreds of pounds".  One might ask why the NMC can't receive the tax relief directly from HMRC so that the nurse only has to pay the net amount, leaving the few nurses in the 40% tax bracket to claim the extra tax relief.

Re: I'm just going to leave this here..

Free training places for all medical staff.... on condition they fulfil the entry requirement/s and stay in the profession here in the UK for a set number of years..... otherwise they must pay the cost of it back including any further specialist courses.

After all a police officer does need a grant to be trained up do they and that takes what, at least £10k and couple of years I should imagine - and they get paid whilst doing it. Or have I got that wrong?
