I'll name that tune in...

...in 2.29 seconds.
Spice Girl's Wannabe is catchiest hit single according to researchers.

Data from more than 12,000 participants was collected from the online experiment, which was developed by the Museum of Science and Industry (Mosi).

The Spice Girls' debut single, which spent seven weeks at number one during 1996, was the most quickly recognised song by participants, taking an average of 2.29 seconds.

Aren't the catchiest tunes often the most annoying Wink

Re: I'll name that tune in...

Interesting but probably flawed.
What was the age range and ratio of the subjects?
How did they select the subjects? (How did the subjects hear about the quiz?)
What range of music was used? (Genres, decades).

If you went to the site and tried it for yourself you'd find all your questions except how the subjects were selected are answered!

I did read the BBC site that was linked. It doesn't answer any specific questions, just vague answers.

Interesting but with a result like that I can't help thinking that Simon Fuller must have been the chief researcher.

Go to http://www.hookedonmusic.org.uk/ then click Help Science to see what demographics they capture from the participants.
