I know we've had the halal argument on here but....

This is a video that was sent to me that may be of some interest. I'm NOT making any political or social statements. View it or not, it's your choice.
I will earn you, IT IS DISTRESSING (well it was for me, and I think I'm pretty hardened to life.)

There's been lots of debate about this, but how about how they are treated before slaughter?
That seems to be missing from the debate.

Re: I know we've had the halal argument on here but....

Apparently licenced British slaughterhouses do stun then, but a lot of halal meat is imported- and they may not be subject to the same regulations or monitoring. And if you eat halal meat there is no way of knowing where it originates. Who asks about that Friday night doner or the meat in the vindaloo?
Anyhow,I just wanted to give people the opportunity to see the video, I didn't way to start a big discussion. It always ends in tears.

While I don't want to get into any further debates over halal myself I don't see the point of posting any links then requesting the topic being locked so that further discussions can't take place.
I'm hoping the forum has moved on from the problems being encountered up to last week Cry

It's probably fair to say most meat eaters prefer not to see where their nicely prepared meat comes from.
It's also probably true that most would not, under normal circumstances kill and eat an animal.
The rest of the predatory animal kingdom doesn't have that problem......we do.

Re: I know we've had the halal argument on here but....

The whole meat provision thing has got a bit out of kilter.  When I was a kid my dad owned a small chicken farm (mixed battery/barn/free range). It was part of the day's job to kill the chickens that were destined for meat or were too sick. In those days the process entailed holding the chicken under one arm and giving a swift tug and twist to the chicken's head to break it's neck. It was clean, quick, and very little stress to the bird. Nowadays the whole process is much more complicated and needs specialist contractors to dispose of the bodies unless they are being used for meat.
People should be given information  on what processes are used to provide their meat.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

A bigger problem than how meat here is killed must still be the illegal import of "bush" meat.
Little (more) seems to be done to stop it despite it being suspected of bringing in many diseases. And being possibly behind recent foot and mouth outbreaks.
Those caught seem to suffer little more than a slap on the wrist.

Re: I know we've had the halal argument on here but....

@ mav, after the last 'discussion' which git very heated and personal,I didn't want it to all kick off again. However I did think it was a video worthy of being viewed. I thought something like this was suited for some quiet contemplation.
As for how animals are treated before slaughter ie farmed and transported, I grew up in a farming environment.  The free range versus battery chickens argument doesn't hold water. Many times I have seen free range hens peck to death an injured bird. Often caused by a very minor injury (a small cut to the comb caused by pushing the head through the chicken wire). For some reason hens do pick on injured birds. This doesn't happen in battery farming.
And dispatching animals is a sore point.  We are omnivores, we are designed to eat meat. But there is no need to cause unnecessary suffering.
To be fair, the guys on the film are just 'doing the job' and not seen to be taking excessive joy in doing it.
Personally I will be trying to find out a bit more about the meat I eat, and be selective if I don't like what I hear. It's my conscience, and my choice.

@DB, I think Mav has a valid point. We have moved on from the problems we encountered with certain individuals a few weeks ago.

Re: I know we've had the halal argument on here but....

Here you go: have some footage from UK slaughterhouses. This is regular non-halal meat. (Source). Lovely stuff, eh?
The same tired agendas are being furthered here and are just as pernicious. If you eat meat you directly contribute to the suffering of animals, regardless of religion.
