I haven't got none

My daughter and many of her generation use the phrase "I haven't got none" to mean she doesn't have any which is of course incorrect.
If she says to me "Dad, lend me £20 until Friday" and I reply "I haven't got no money" which of course means I have money, it doesn't work and she persists with her pursuit of my £20 and gets it.
I can't win Sad
This was prompted by another on the forum, 'revert back' which leaves the situation unchanged.

At least she does not say "Dad, borrow me £20 until Friday". One of my pet hates

Re: I haven't got none

My daughter used to ask, after finishing her dinner, 'Can I leave the table?' to which I replied 'Yes, you can. No, you may not' Wink
Edit: I've also heard the phrase 'I ain't not got none'!

The purpose of language is to communicate with others, teenagers have their own form of language.
Guess you are lucky in being able to understand what they say as I find some teenagers not only have their own language  but what they say is often mumbled. Smiley

Re: I haven't got none

With the kids I find the phrase: "What part of 'No' cant't you understand?" quite useful.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

My stock reply runs something like -  "take it out of the £xx I lent you last week that you were going to pay me back tomorrow"

Re: I haven't got none

In our house:
Daughter: 'Dad can I have ....'
Me: 'NO!'
Daughter: 'What do you mean, 'NO'?'
Me: 'Google it!'
Call me 'w23'
