Re: I am really happy I am retired and no longer have to fly all over the place

I was watching a program the other day about T5.
The baggage system cost millions and was tested for months with thousands of bags.
I don't think they tested it with thousands of passengers, hundreds of staff, traffic jams and working patterns.
At the time of the program they said they HAD to get it right as an example in the US cost £1,000,000 per day over nearly a year.
No pressure then Undecided

Let's just hope it doesn't go the same way as Denver Airport,  but it does seem the people planning these things never learn!

The airport's computerized baggage system, which was supposed to reduce flight delays, shorten waiting times at luggage carousels, and save airlines in labor costs, turned into an unmitigated failure. An opening originally scheduled for October 31, 1993 with a single system for all three concourses turned into a February 28, 1995 opening with separate systems for each concourse, with varying degrees of automation.
The automated baggage system never worked well, and in August 2005, it became public knowledge that United would abandon the system, a decision that would save them $1 million in monthly maintenance costs.

Re: I am really happy I am retired and no longer have to fly all over the place

well, the news showed even more of a mess today!  I think I would stay at home or would have changed airlines quick the other day when the chaos started!  Who needs a terrorist threat when the airline can  cause the same confusion on it's own?
I am glad I am a poor pensioner who cannot jet off to sunny climes [though today's weather makes one envious of those who can!]

I'm flying to the US on Tuesday but fortunately with US Airways out of Gatwick.
This fiasco at T5 will take BA a long time to live down and cost them a fortune in compensation.
Even today they have cancelled over 60 flights.  Some of those leaving are doing so without luggage  and even incoming flights are not all bringing luggage with them.

How about the snooker player on his way up North to a tournament.  he wasn't allowed to take his cue on board (security risk??) and it had to be checked in.  Needless to say when he got to his destination - no cue  Sad

Just to put the tin lid on it - have a look here and for the non Swedish speakers I think this
