Not looking good for Buzz Lightyear's imaginary holiday destination.

Re: Hurricane Dorian

Maybe he'll come up with an excuse to delay for a week or two, e.g. "The head gardener needed time off to attend a horticultural show with some of our particularly large onions".

Re: Hurricane Dorian

Dorian has now been upgraded to a CAT 5 storm. Originally it was forecast to go up the I95 corridor but has been pushed east and most of the State will be spared and only experience rain and strong winds. It could still change direction again.

Re: Hurricane Dorian

Dorian has been downgraded to a CAT2 but is still causing concern. It looks like it will cause minor damage to the east coast of Florida before moving on to Georgia and the Carolinas.

The Bahamas has taken a major hit and severe damage has been caused in this area. Lots of rebuilding work to do.

Re: Hurricane Dorian

30 people are now confirmed dead in the Bahamas with more deaths expected.

Dorian is now heading for the Carolinas where it could hit over the weekend.

Re: Hurricane Dorian

We winge about problems here but looking at news reports and video from those areas where virtually nothing has been left standing and basic facilities no longer exist puts our own problems in to perspective. It's impossible to imagine how people are going to cope.

Even when some degree of normality returns there must always be the fear of what will happen in future years as these storms appear to be increasing in frequency and strength.

Re: Hurricane Dorian

I see the old chestnut of dropping a nuke into a would be hurricane just when it looks like forming has popped up again.

Now where could that go wrong.

Radioactive hurricane with two headed sharks flying around in it is the first thing that springs to mind.

Well maybe minus the sharks.

Re: Hurricane Dorian

Re: Hurricane Dorian

2500 people are registered as missing in the Bahamas. Some towns have been completely flattened. At least 50 people have been killed.

https://edition.cnn.com/2019/09/12/americas/bahamas-dorian-thousands-missing-thursday/index.html

Despite threats to the eastern seaboard of the US Dorian was sufficiently off shore to prevent any real damage.
