Re: How would you deal with the Somali Pirates?

It can be frightening if you think what next a few people hijack millions of pounds of oil so what next. There is so much stuff unguarded that people dont bother about as they think no one will ever bother. Petrol tanker drivers spring to mind how much is a tanker of petrol worth?
I was thinking about computers I worked at Barclays Bank and the network we worked on cost 1 million pounds an hour if it went down and there was generally only 4 of us on in the middle of the night there could be less. So a couple break in and cause havoc  just think what they could do by being man in the middle they could change billions of pounds from going to bank b to some were else they could bring every bank in the uk down in a very short time.
You see it on the films all the time people take over key computer centers and shut down the power fire missiles etc  before computers it would take 100's of people to do this but now get to the right computer and anything is possible.

Justice of a sort.

Some pirates fired on an Indian navy warship, and regretted it.

Re: How would you deal with the Somali Pirates?

@ Denzil, well it looks like someone's got the right idea. Lets hope other navy's follow suit. The only snag I can think of is that the Somali's may begin to retaliate with violence towards the "captured" crews, which up till now have been fairly well treated it seems.
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: How would you deal with the Somali Pirates?

I'm rather out of date now, but maybe NATO, ANZUK and other similar groupings should set up an international anti piracy patrols - and enable these warships to take strong decisive action.
Don't some of the oil rich Arab nations have any Navies that could protect the seas and ocean in their area - they have plenty of money after all.....

Grin Couldn't do that Strat as he's already performed on a ship. Since he has the Trains covered maybe if the Pirates could be persuaded to board a Bus then we could send Aikido man in then?  Cheesy
I am surprised the Yanks haven't sent in a huge armed force - remember it is about oil  Wink

Re: How would you deal with the Somali Pirates?

I don`t think the Somali Pirates are interested in the Oil, the hold the ship and crew for ransome to be paid for by the ships owners. The money they get, is then spent on arms and amunition to further the cause !... If they offloaded the oil from the latest tanker, they would have to do something with it, (refine it/re-sell it) to be able to raise some cash!....
