How times change...

We've just received our latest copy of the local BT phone directory. I can remember when these things used to be in 4 or 5 large volumes. This one runs to 309 pages a percentage of which is classified businesses. By design we're not in it.
Muscular strong men (and bikini clad women) used appear on TV tearing old style telephone books in half as entertainment (weren't we easily pleased then)
Actually it wasn't as difficult as it seemed; the books were baked in the oven to dry them out and broken laterally along the back spine to almost half way through the rest of the tear was then fairly easy. But it looked impressive...then.
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: How times change...

Much to my annoyance a Thompson Local was put through my letterbox yesterday. It went straight into the bin, but my, how tiny it is now.

I didn't know they still produced the BT phone directory.  If I require a phone number I use bt.com where you can search for 10 numbers per day free of charge.

Re: How times change...

Yeah we recently got the thomson local too and I must say it was always a bit small compared to the yellow pages but i was utterly shocked at how small this one was.
I don't see them staying in business much longer if it shrinks much more.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: How times change...

Our most recent Thomson's is around 8" x 6" and about 1/2" thick. It covers Canturbury, Dover, Margate and Ramsgate so quite a large area.
It has two pages of useful numbers at the front.

Re: How times change...

Coincidentally our new BT phone book arrived today and is smaller than ever.
Still A4 "height" but narrower (about 6.5") and thinner.
The Thomson Local is smaller still.
