How many wifi networks you got round you?

On my 589 I can see 10 local wifi networks.
2 TT routers using 40MHz, rest seem to be mostly BT, with one Sky.
One of the TT is next door, PITA!  Cheesy

Re: How many wifi networks you got round you?

At the moment three - my own + two others both of which are free wireless from the Caravan Park which adjoins the garden.
Occasionally there's another which I assume to be a neighbour. Mine is usually the strongest signal and it quite alone at the top end of the bands.

Re: How many wifi networks you got round you?

Lucky you.  Wink
The 582 just can't cope with all the BT routers round here, it gets swamped. The 589 holds up a bit better. At least I get G speeds from it, rather than B speeds.
This is a nice feature like the one in WRT so you can see the local networks, without inssider etc.

Re: How many wifi networks you got round you?

This is one of the problems with ISP provided routers, near me I have 2 on the 5Ghz band and about 11 on the 2.4Ghz, but it causes me no problems whatsoever, there are even 6 using the same channel as i am, but there again I do have an expensive router, the AVM Fritz! 7390

Re: How many wifi networks you got round you?

my mobile tells me there are 19 wifi networks near me, the 582's wifi would fall over every few minutes, the billion I have now uses the 5g range unlike any of the other nets around me, but there are at least 6 unsecured signals (2 of which are BT) and several "hidden networks"  which once you discover the ssid are also free access .....
what scares me the most though is that more people will start getting 5ghz networks in the future and the whole place will be awash with dual 2/5 ghz networks and again I wont be able ot get a half decent connection to the router less than 6 feet from me.......
just because your paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you

Re: How many wifi networks you got round you?

Whilst having no close neighbours, the furthest computer Wi-Fi Network I detected last August, when I last checked, was around 150 metres away, across open fields.
Total of 12 Networks back then ( two being the same BT one)
Can't check today, I'm away from the UK, but I normally can see around 10-15 computer Networks.
I chose Channel 10 as it gave good results, and no-one else was on it.
Never had any interference problems.
Even with two iMac running at the same time, on Channel 10, who also talk to each other at the same time !!

I use iStumbler mainly on my iMac to check neighbouring channels.
I do seem to pick up WiFi from quite a distance away.
150 metres is the furthest I have been able to identify so far.
Many others are on default Channel 11.
Another app, WiFi Signal is also useful, though the recommended other Channels are not always better, when I trial switch.
I changed mine to Channel 10 manually.

Re: How many wifi networks you got round you?

Not a clue!
Scanned outside a couple of years back and something like 20 of them were out there. One used to be insecure which was nice when PN went down lol but that vanished a while back.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Re: How many wifi networks you got round you?

Just me and 1 on TT ATM. Sometimes I get as many as 3 or four. Mind you, I do live in a 'Seniors' area though!  Cool

Re: How many wifi networks you got round you?

Using inSSIDer I can see about 9 other networks.
Most powerful is immediate neighbour's HH5 so manually set my HH4 to CH6
I use Roku a lot and no actual problems.

Re: How many wifi networks you got round you?

A quick rescan this morning and there is one other signal  with equal strength to mine but I am on Channel 11 and the other is on 2 Smiley
It's also unsecured from the caravan site which, like 7up says, comes in useful when ours goes down.

There are only 6 routers as the BT hub use virtual ssids so BTWifi-X and BTWifi-with-fon are virtual ssids of BThub3-275W

Re: How many wifi networks you got round you?

On 2.4GHz,
6 that are either TT or Sky, plus another 6 that are very weak and come and go.
I have 5GHz to myself.
