How many Monitors

I've just been reading an article in a computer mag where I saw the statement 'most people are using two monitors on their desktop'.
Personally I don't but I thought I'd try to test this statement by asking you people. It could be home or work, it doesn't matter.

Just for starters I've attached a pic of Plusnet's Networks office to give you an idea of what I mean.

Re: How many Monitors

Have considered two monitors, just because it makes it easier when cross referencing information. Currently though I have 3 PCs attached to one monitor rather than the other way round.

Re: How many Monitors

Depends who they asked - our CAD users at work always had two big monitors - one for the overview and one for the detail they were working on.

Re: How many Monitors

Two, effectively: the screen in my laptop (1440x900) with an external monitor (1920x1200). The former doesn't really get used as a 'main' monitor, it's more for things like IRC, MSN etc. that I want to be able to glance at whilst getting on with things on the external monitor.

Re: How many Monitors

Home PC:  24" widescreen and a 19" 4:3
Work:  2 x 22" widescreen
EeePC:  1!
Although technically, I have two headless boxes at home, so 2/3 of a monitor each.
Oh, and currently around 70 headless servers/render nodes at work, so really 1/35 of a monitor each Cheesy

Re: How many Monitors

I've got two identical 17" CRT monitors each running at 1600x1200. I've been thinking about replacing them with TFT monitors for quite a while, but can't find any that compare.

Re: How many Monitors

Compare in what way? There're a lot of good LCD monitors available on the market these days, although they're not always easy to spot.

My 17" screen is one of the good quality Dell flat CRT screens with the two fine lines across the screen (is that a Triniton tube?). It is a cracking good display.
I recently bought a Samsung 2243BW on the recommendation of Peter Vaughan (current price £139.99). I have a major problem with this screen - it makes the Dell monitor look terrible!

Re: How many Monitors

And, to be fair, that Samsung monitor doesn't even demonstrate the best of LCD technology. Find a monitor with a S/H-IPS panel and you'll never ever want to look at another monitor again, CRT or LCD - unfortunately they're not cheap, but as I'm interested in photography I invested in one and I can attest to the fact that the quality is absolutely fantastic.

Re: How many Monitors

My main PC has a 17" TFT. Suits me for all jobs. Could use something similar for my other PC, but I just use that for watching DVDs.
But on a slightly different note. What's with all the ebayers who are posting pages where you have to use the horizontal scroll to view their pages. I feel like emailing them and saying "We don't all have our PCs rigged up to our 42" widescreen TVs you know." Been finding a few of those on there, damn annoying Angry

Re: How many Monitors

one desktop pc in this house uses two monitors (sisters a uni student who uses CAD and 3d max studio) and you could count the laptop using two when i plug that into the 32" lcd tv
