How long???

We have been receiving unsolicited letters from a company with whom we have never dealt or intend to have anything to do with.
So we have contacted them and told them to remove us from their mailing list.
They said it would take eight weeks to remove it!
Surely it's a five minute job to find an entry on the computer and delete it?
Any ideas as to why they will take so long? Apart from the fact that they can plague us for another two months.

Re: How long???

I guess it is because all the brochures for the next 8 weeks are already printed, awaiting posting on appropriate dates.

Re: How long???

Its also how often they update their mailing lists.
Also this looks like someone has sold your details on. I would go through all the companies you deal with and make sure that your marketing preferences show that you do not want you details passed on. The wording that most companies use is usually "Carefully selected companies". But that just means it's ok to sell your details on.
Ways to help stop this.
Contact the sender (But I know that you have already done this)
Return unwanted mail to sender. They usually have a return address. Mark it unwanted mail. I have found that worked quiet well for me. To return mail does not need a stamp.
Register with MPS (Mailing Preference Service)
Contact ICO (Information Commissioners Office)
I would only contact the ICO if the company does not comply.
I hope this helps.

Re: How long???

I try and use unique e-mail address and was sending off Kenco Coffee packets (free post) to a firm called TerraCycle UK  who use them and give donations to nominated charities  I used the prefix ken@.
Now I am getting spam from the US and Russia.  Had a go at Terra cycle about this and they dont seem to care
