How fast are you ? Guardian collecting data on Broadband Speeds

"With your help, the Guardian is creating an up-to-date broadband map of Britain, showing advertised versus real speeds.
We want to highlight the best and worst-served communities, and bring attention to the broadband blackspots."

I'm Blue

The 2 to 20 mbps band is a bit wide, I would have suggested 5mbps increments.

Mr Green is a lucky chap !

I'm not as fast as this person in the Blackpool area.

Maybe they were riding The Big One at the time.

Currently I'm blue but if I go for fibre (don't tell my bank manager) I could make the jump to light speed a.k.a 37Mbs Cool

Not a great deal of validation going on there when you've a free-format text field to enter whatever speed you like! Shocked

Re: How fast are you ? Guardian collecting data on Broadband Speeds

Notice the bit below that says Grade D <Slower than 70% of GB>

PN claimed to be upgrading us last year to 'upto 20Mb' and these speeds are not much different to the old ones. To think.. my partner shot out and bought me a new router that could handle ADSL2 for my birthday too  Roll eyes
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Try a disconnect/reconnect and you should find it's a /little/ faster.

Re: How fast are you ? Guardian collecting data on Broadband Speeds

Very marginally:

Still slower than 70% of GB (aparently) but to be honest it's still mega fast compared to dialup so it doesn't worry us a great deal to be honest. I could personally live happily with just the dongle (one of the early 3Mbps ones) and not be bothered so even though it's just over 7Mbps I'm not overly bothered by it. Thanks for looking at it though Bob, I appreciate your effort.
We struggled with dialup for years after BB had become common place so to us this is still pretty good as long as two things work: Skype and youtube. Disturb those and we'll be miffed but as long as those are available we're fairly content now traffic wise (gave up on p2p moons ago).
The reason for my last comment was the router - we were led to believe we were going to need it for some possible huge speed increase and while it may of gone up 1 or 2mb I don't think we really needed to worry about the hardware but hey ho, at least it's quieter than my old ICS host PC that had wifi in AP mode.
