How do you defrost you freezer(s) ??

As I can not get the frozen supplies down to a minimum as SWMBO does not think when she goes shopping & still stocks up  Roll eyes
I typically get out the hot air paint stripper to get at what the (plastic scraper that came with the fridge / freezer) can not get at or do & use towel(s) under the freezer to catch as much liquid as is possible, with a bowl inside to catch as much as it can
I have heard of the defrost sprays that one could purchase, however, I am a bit sceptical of such things

I do the same as you, hot air gun.
I did purchase some sort of mat that claimed to stop the build up of frost in the freezer but in my opinion it was useless, fortunately I got it cheap from Aldi but have seen the same ones advertised at silly prices in the press.
No ideas about the spray

Re: How do you defrost you freezer(s) ??

I pack everything I can in the fridge and the rest (if any) goes in cardboard boxes.
I put a large bowl of hot water in the bottom of the freezer and leave it for an hour then attack the sides with a scraper.
I empty the ice out with a plastic shovel and use a towel to mop up what's left.
And you have now reminded me to do mine asap.

Re: How do you defrost you freezer(s) ??

I find by far the best way is to let her get on with it, in the past because I was never around long enough through work and now because its physically impossible for me to do it, but I always advise using a hairdryer on high heat, these no point using anything that can cause hotspots as the polystyrene filler material behind the plastic cover will often deform and that makes the thing far less efficient than being full of ice .....

We take everything out and wrap it up well in sleeping bags etc. Then, we put bowls of hot water on the shelves and leave the door(s) open.
After a little time, I get the job of attacking the ice with a hair dryer, heat gun, ice axe, chain saw, and acetylene torch until it's spotless again!

I have never defrosted my freezer for years.
It's got a auto-defrost function.  Grin Grin Grin Grin

I have a Samsung American style fridge freezer and it has never had so much as a crystal of excess ice in the freezer section. It has been on solidly for 7 years now.

Re: How do you defrost you freezer(s) ??

I've got 2.... 1 in the kitchen, 1 in the garage..  both are supposed to self defrost, neither do!  Angry
So, I take everything out f 1, cram it in the other, then leave the empty 1 switched off over night with a towel around the bottom to soak up the water. Simple.  Grin
