How do they do this?

It's a youtube vid...

You'll have to excuse the music it's not a real person singing it's a computer programme (vocaloid) but that's no excuse, but how do they get that 3D image on stage like that?

Re: How do they do this?

I think I can see a transparent sheet, but the image itself seems as if it's a 3D holographic type image and not a 2D image projected.  Maybe fibre optics in a cubed space which flicker the ends of the optic to a set colour?  Is that even possible?  Is it possible to have a fibre optic cable displaying several colours at once?

Re: How do they do this?

I suspect it's just a standard projection onto a holographic "Clearscreen"

Re: How do they do this?

At first I thought it was rendered after the shooting, but in the video sequence.
However you can clearly see the projected light source from behind.
Likely a fine mesh with some auto video correction

Re: How do they do this?

Forgot to add,

This is a genuine projection on the side of a building for new year.
http://www.green-hippo.com/ - Do it yourself. I have a friend that does them for some major night club events. Using a standard projector facing the top corner of his room, he can make some real random stuff occur.

Re: How do they do this?

That's jaw droppingly good and amazing.  Is it actual 3D or 2D designed to look 3D?

Re: How do they do this?

Holography.
Very clever stuff but also very specialist. It's not one of those things you can just get into as a hobby unfortunately. I remember asking this same question about the eurovision years ago.. they had 2 sliding 3d scoreboards on the stage which were clearly not real but not done by CGI either.
Holography is one of those technologies people seem to forget exists for some reason.. i think it's because we take computer generated stuff for the norm.
I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!
