The UK's chief medical officers (CMOs) are being urged to protect children from the risks of rugby injuries by removing contact from the school game.
Rugby was the sport of choice (not my choice I may add) at my school in the 70's. Yes, there were some injuries but it did help build a sense of teamwork and how to run fast once the ball was in your possession
What sort of world are we making for our youngsters if we continually wrap them in cotton wool?

Oh come on Mav, don't ask such daft questions.
This is the country of the politically correct elite. Players will have be re trained to ask "Excuse me good sir, would you kindly pass me the ball now i've matched your velocity? There's a good chap.."

When they banned High Tackles (above the shoulder), Stiff Arm and Spear Tackles (lifting player and dropping them on their head) it took all the fun out of the game. I always ended up as a Full Back hence attempting to stop a pack of opposition Forwards on the run.

Virtually all sports along with other activities such as rock climbing, caving and the rest have some degree of risk but it should be left up to those taking part what measures should be taken to reduce the risk, in football the old types of ball are no longer used and in cricket face guards are now used.
Some have tried to ban the IoM TT as there are few years when someone does not get killed but riders and spectators are against such a ban.
In short leave it to those taking part to decide on the rules.

Difficult call, those taking part are probably least aware of the dangers.
That said I do agree with you.

@gleneagles All I can say is 'well said', I am no sportsman, for physical reasons, but those who take part know and respect their limitations, and the risks involved.
If we allow this kind of 'risk free' for everything attitude, there will soon be no sense in getting out of bed in a morning.

Sorry @Champnet , I disagree - no sane person will put themselves in danger, intentionally, for a sport.

Bed? Nooo, far too risky. Hundreds of people die every year falling on stairs.
Stay safe - sleep on the sofa.
