How Green is your Grass ?

The Green, Green Grass of Home...
This year I left the Grass long, and it has worked.
Not quite at seeding height.

During the recent Hot spell, I've not watered the Lawns at all, and they are still as Green as ever.
There have been a few showers, and a heavy Thunderstorm though.

Plants watered in the cool of dusk, and dawn, but the Lawn Sprinklers have stayed stowed away.
Appreciated by the Bees & Butterflies, of which there are many.

Some welcome rain expected over the weekend, should cool the temperatures down a bit too.

Re: How Green is your Grass ?

My grass is good, though long, but the great success in this hit weather is my grape vine. It's starting to look like 'that' plant in Jumanji.  Cheesy

Re: How Green is your Grass ?

At one stage in my life, I used to earn my living cutting grass for the "well to do"... with huge lawns and tennis courts.  Used to keep it pretty short in spring, and then raise the cutters during the summer to let it grow a bit more... retaining the green....
Now, I don`t have any grass to cut... we have a parking space in front, and a decked/gravel back garden with a few big pots.... very low maintenance !..

Sunday I cut the Grass...
After a day of Sunshine, it was nice & Dry for cutting.
(I did check for Frogs before cutting !)
A long grass setting on the Mower worked fine, and there were no signs of dehydration in the Grass.
Even cut, it was still pleasantly Green.
Checked the Diary, it's a month since the Grass on this Lawn was cut.
It was getting a bit long !!
The Lawn does look a lot better now.

Re: How Green is your Grass ?

I cut my grass yesterday - the second time in a week. I cut at 1.5 inches ish all through the season and weed and feed about every 4 weeks.
So far, so good. Nothing growing but grass.
I've only used the sprinkler when the forecasted rain hasn't appeared after I've feeded and weeded.
It's a fairly new lawn. Had it partly reseeded and the turf taken off/replaced for levelling after the builders moved on.

Re: How Green is your Grass ?

My grass is beautiful and green ...... until you get closer and find it is all weed and moss with the odd bit of grass inbetween.
I struggled for years to maintain it but when the new neighbours moved in (straight from the Jeremy Kyle show) we stopped using the garden for pleasure purposes and I just run the mower over it now every couple of weeks and weedkill the boarders every few months Sad

Had it partly reseeded...

The new grass area I partially seeded a few weeks back to cover moss killed parts, was noticeably Greener and taller than the original Grass.
So I too reseeded the older part a couple of weeks ago, and waited until the seeds had established themselves before mowing Sunday.
I also left the Bird Baths empty, so as not to attracted Birds to the seeded areas.
Seems to have worked.

Re: How Green is your Grass ?

I think I cut my front grass a bit short 2 weeks ago as it's been mostly brown ever since.
Currently it's slowly recovering but doesn't look very impressive.

Re: How Green is your Grass ?

At the moment I'm using a brush cutter for the first pass of my lawn mowing. I pulled a muscle earlier this year and foolishly used that as an excuse not to cut the grass.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

That's a step up from mine which the best description for would be crispy.
