How Careless Can People Be

I did some shopping at Tesco yesterday using their 'Scan as you Shop' system.

I arrived at the pay station and scanned the barcode for my purchases to be downloaded into the system.

I then took out my card to insert into the reader. I immediately turned to the assistant nearby and pointed to the card reader.

There was a Mastercard in the slot which the assistant removed.

This is by no means the first instance of its kind I have experienced.

People are told to protect their PIN.

Protecting their card would be a good start.

At our local Post Office Counter people were always leaving their cards behind..... mostly older folks it has to be said.

Not helped by having a very narrow, front to back counter, and nowhere to put a shopping bag down.

Does the checkout system print the receipt with the card in the reader? If so I would regard that as poor user interface design.

The Waitrose system only initiates printing once the card is removed.

I can't say as I've noticed one way or the other. I'm on auto-pilot.

Tesco's does - don't ask how I know !

I too was on autopilot/distracted by the pretty assistant giving me back the bottle of booze after she had taken the security tag off!Roll_eyes
