House of Lords

I am sure that I read somewhere that it was the governments intention to reduce the number of people in the house of Lords but some recent press articles appear to suggest that once the current bunch of names are added the total number will be over 1000.
Whilst we might need a house of Lords, not everybody thinks we do, I Think the number should be reduced to approx 200.
How do you select the 200, well get rid of those who just clock in to get their money for the day and leave within 10 minutes, get rid of those who stay and sleep most of the time and finally get rid of those who attend but have made no serious contribution to debates that have taken place over the last 12 months.
After that you might just be lucky to end up with 200 !

Re: House of Lords

I think - from memory - that the major reform with mostly or all elected members - was blocked by Conservative Back Benchers

Re: House of Lords

Where else would they locate the troughs for the snouts of the political hangers-on if the House of Lords was abolished.
Now Zen, but a +Net residue.
