Not wanting to bump the thread on equity release it's also worth noting some firms are offering to buy your house for cash with the offer of a quick sale, a few days before completion they then tell you the figure originally offered is now reduced by thousands of pounds, if you are tied up with buying another house you either withdraw from that purchase leaving the sellers in the lurch and you feeling angry and guilty for letting people down or you accept the lower price and lose thousands ! you will no doubt have lost hundreds on your solicitors/removal firm cancellation etc.
It's an almost impossible task to find any firm or company that you can trust.

I would have thought it is the responsibility of your solicitor to see this doesn't happen

From what I've read the originally offered price is already far below market value.

But surely if you are selling a house you will have a rough idea of how much it is worth
An estate agent would provide an 'optimistic' value or a surveyor would provide a realistic value. This would then give you some information on which to discuss any offers made by third parties.

That's similar to the buy any car site. You get an offer then most people will have to travel a long way to their garage/office. They will then pick the tiniest fault and knock the offer price well down.
You then have a choice of travelling back home with nothing to show except a fuel bill or take the much reduced offer. They depend on the fact that most people that go to sites like this are desperate for money and so usually end up taking their offer.

hiya i know what you mean ... there are several that have adverts in the paper.. i would not touch them ever....
unless one is totally desperate,, they offer a very low price for the house... and its not intended as equity release...
