House Martins

Has anyone around the country seen any House Martins yet? I reckon I usually see my first (in deepest rural Warwickshire) about the middle of April but wondered if any of you living by the coast or wetland areas have seen any yet. I think they tend to spend time in those areas before returning to nest sights

Re: House Martins

They are probably still swanning around in South Africa, thinking, "Do I really have to fly all the way back to the UK, it's quite nice here."

Re: House Martins

Are House Martins, European birds that head south for the northern winter,
...............................or African birds who come north to breed because of the longer daylight hours and more abundant food supply?

Re: House Martins

Never seen a House Martin?  Shocked  Shocked  I'm sure you must have sprite, they're quite common all over the UK from Spring to late Autumn. I always like to look out for them returning at this time of the year as it makes me think that summer is around the corner

Re: House Martins

Quite possibly!
They're here every year, and I'd always thought they were martins.
