In this alleged heatwave, we have moved our bins away from the house, and into a shaded part of garden, it's a case of holding your breath whilst opening lid to deposit kitchen waste in the bin.
We do put some bleach in bins, to kill bugs, and reduce smell.
Thankfully collection day is Thursday.
Bins out as early as possible in the cool part of the day.
Thursday is going to be extra hot day.
I foresee a jet wash once emptied.
Or at least a hosepipe, we have excellent water pressure.
What do you do ?

I always chuck a cardboard box at the bottom of my bin which helps to keep it clean with no effort.
If it gets a bit smelly a sprinkle of Jeyes Fresh Bin sorts that out.

everything that goes into bin are in black bags so bins are usually clean after emptying. If any fluid has leaked out just a wash out is needed..simples!!😁

Same as ours, everything bagged - bin never gets dirty, our bins are on the north side of the house in a very handy area where there is a small strip of land between our house wall and neighbours fence.
I don't know what our former neighbour used to put in her bin, she used to keep it against our fence and boy did it stink - she even used to get it cleaned every week by those 'bin valet' people that used to follow the dustbin lorries around washing bins, but a few days after collection day the smell would be back - and that is when bins got collected every week. She didn't have a kid or a dog so I am still puzzled as to what it was, thought at one time she worked at a fishmonger and was in the habit of bringing their rubbish home.

Took the wheelie bin out at 6:30am, a very pleasant 17ºC
A trick I learnt during an extremely hot holiday in Portugal a few years back
Half empty 2 litre water bottle in freezer, on side, neck above water level, when frozen add water, sits in car, nice cold water all day.
Just done the same with a few 500ml flavoured water bottles.
In freezer, to add water when frozen, keep one upstairs in bedroom / study

So how does that stop the bin stinking?

I think you hit the nail on the head there. We eat a lot of fish - fillets/steaks are not a problem, but the remains of whole fish will soon cause a stink. If they have to be gutted (eg herring, sea bream and sea bass) or even if it's just the heads and carcasses (eg trout or shell-on prawns) we need to be extra careful.
One tip I saw on an earlier thread (apologies, can't remember whose it was) was to prop the bin lid open a bit. I tried this by putting a bit of 10mm stripwood moulding under the lid near the front. It certainly helps, allowing the smells to seep out of the gap and dissipate whilst keeping the interior "aired". The rain doesn't get in through the small gap.

I thought it best to wait until the 20 minute editing time was up on your latest flurry of posts to four threads ( 1 2 3 ) with comments aimed at me, some derogatory, which you were hastily and repeatedly editing, before I attempted to reply.
Regarding the above, I was just pointing out that most of what you post is stuff you've posted before in a previous incarnation. Simples.
New material welcome, there're enough repeats on the BBC (and other channels).

Bin day today... hottest day of year.
Bin emptied 1pm !!!
Hottest time of day.....
Fortunately most of route to collect bin was in shade.
So, sprayed myself & clothes with cold water, which seemed to help.
If it gets too hot indoors, I have the option of sitting in car, MAX cool takes it down to 15ºC very quickly.
Remote one button press global opens all windows & sunroof on car.
Similar to close all later.
But, after just a few minutes out in 31ºC collecting bin........ I need a rest !

Thanks for that. I'm exhausted now.
If I were you I would definitely go for a rest! By the way, did your clothes shrink on you after you had wet them?
