HomeTelecom "Only UK provider to offer unlimited downloads usage"

We exchanged contracts yesterday to buy a new house. Connells estate agents have obviously passed on my details to Home Telecom who have sent me the attached email.
I guess Plusnet may want to take them up about their false claim.

If it's an advert then you can report it yourself to the ASA who will look at the advert, find out if it's misleading and if it is, get them to change it.

Just spoken to Citizens Advice - they have taken full details and are passing on a complaint to Trading Standards.

From their website:
[quote=http://www.hometelecom.co.uk/pages.php?id=159]A Premium Broadband connection with unlimited monthly downloads. There is no traffic management on our broadband, you will always receive unrestricted speeds, meaning the fastest available speed at your property at no extra charge! As an Option 1 Broadband customer you will also benefit from a 20:1 contention ratio, meaning a faster more reliable broadband compared to the standard 50:1 contention ratio with BT, Virgin Media and Talk Talk.
[quote=http://www.hometelecom.co.uk/broadband-qa.php]How fast will my broadband be?
We will ensure that you get the fastest speed available to you in your area. This means that you could get up to 20Mb, if your local telephone exchange is ADSL2+ enabled, or an up to 8Mb service if it’s not.
I wonder if they have the required percentage of users hitting 20Mb?

Ah, the contention chestnut.
I guess they must be using IPStream Office 500/1000/2000 as IPStream Max and WBC/WBMC don't have contention ratios.

Re: HomeTelecom "Only UK provider to offer unlimited downloads usage"

It's also not unlimited, it has a FUP set at 75Gb.....
http://www.hometelecom.co.uk/fair-use-policy1.php
Quote
What happens if I exceed 75GB of downloads each month?
If you exceed 75GB for 2 consecutive month’s in-line with our policy we reserve the right to charge clients for usage above our fair usage cap - any charge (£1.25 per GB per month) will only apply to the second and any subsequent month of over usage and will only apply to usage above the cap. In all instances we will seek to contact a client to warn of any potential over use before levying a charge.

Though you can't access the FUP from the product page itself, odd that..........
