Home page changes.

Annoyingly, I keep on finding my browser home page (and search engine) keeps on changing itself to A Yahoo Safe Search page. I don't use Yahoo at all, my usual page is the Community Forum home page. Presumably its being driven by one of the occasional services update pop-ups that I usually postpone i.e Quicktime or Jave or something like them.
Its not particularly difficult to change it back to where I want it, but I do find it annoying that there seems to be no method of "locking" the home page when resetting, or not in FireFox anyway.

Re: Home page changes.

You'll have neglected to untick a box for the Yahoo toolbar when installing some software - probably Java.
A google search for "remove unwanted toolbar" should help you sort it out.

Re: Home page changes.

In Firefox you can see your toolbars in view > toolbars. If Yahoo is ticked unticking it will stop it popping up.

Re: Home page changes.

@shutter, I mostly postpone any updates for services as in the OP, so unless I open the update surely they shouldn't make unwanted alterations, or am I living in forlorn hopes.
@jelv, as above, but I usually find a Java update (when I do them) usually installs something else if I forget to un-tick a box, but can't offhand remember what it is. I just have a sneaky feeling there are on option boxes in Java updates any more.
@Artmo, unfortunately there's nothing in that view/toolbar drop down.

Re: Home page changes.

I had something like in the past turned out to be something sitting in my router but a yank of the power cord a few minutes wait and then power it back up worked to fix the problem

Re: Home page changes.

@jelv, daft question, how do you bring up the java control panel? I tried searching for it but drew a blank.

Re: Home page changes.

I think so OJ, certainly eventually I install the updates even if not at the time they first pop-up, mostly because I get fed up getting them.

You should find it in the Windows control panel.

Java and Javascript (other than the similarity of the name) are not related in any way whatsoever.

Re: Home page changes.

Found it in the WCP thank you.jelv.
But the Miscellaneous heading lacks the tick box shown in your screen shot, nor is there anything like it anywhere else in the Java control panel.

Re: Home page changes.

@Petlew
If you read the topic linked further up this is a new option introduced by the latest Java release.
