Re: Home made glue

My Mum used to make this glue for my twin brother and I before we started primary school...oh! about 61-62 years ago, presumably it was around long before that, not sure she added the vinegar though.
Experience; is something you gain, just after you needed it most.

When faced with two choices, simply toss a coin. It works not because it settles the question for you. But because in that brief moment while the coin is in the air. You suddenly know what you are hoping for.

Re: Home made glue

Reminds me of an article I read about the VW Factory in Germany just after the war. They continued to build VW Beetle cars and boiled fish bones to obtain the Glue to fix the door seals to the cars, unfortunately during warm weather the glue gave off a smell of fish and many owners of the cars not knowing this virtually stripped their cars down trying to find the source of this smell but never succeeding.
I Know it's a fishy tale but it's true !

SWMBO has made some glue and is trying it out now.
I must say it looks remarkably like the onion sauce served up with lamb. Beginning to wonder what it does inside of me now  Grin

Re: Home-made glue

Not exactly home made but I remember as a lad that when the  odd tile fell off the fireplace we used condensed  milk, they never came off again and there was no smell which you might expect.

Re: Home-made glue

The recipe I linked to says the vinegar acts as a preservative.
I am assuming the sugar is to make it more palettable to little mouths.
It seems that the glue is working just fine and is a very strong adhesive.
