Help Please - The Dumball Rally 2008

The Dumball Rally 2008 is a Pan-European car rally where intrepid, fancily-dressed explorers don their disguises, pony up no more than £400 for their chosen vehicle and attempt to drive it across Europe.
This year, the route is from Brussels to Corfu, travelling 1750 miles through Belgium, Luxembourg, Germany, Austria, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia, Albania, Macedonia, Greece and finally ending up at Corfu.
Why am I telling you this?
Well, the Dumball Rally is organised as a charity fundraising event. This year, the charity is War Child.
War Child works with children affected by war in Afghanistan, Iraq, Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda. Their work with former child soldiers, children in prison and children living and working on the streets gives them support, protection and opportunities. War Child was founded to help the orphans of war-ravaged Bosnia: one of the countries the Dumball will be driving through.

But still. I'm confused. Why are you telling me this?

This year, the 35 teams comprising 100 people include one team of three very special people.
Who are these very special people?
Well, you may have already guessed. I'm doing the Dumball this year!
In addition, I shall be assisted by two of my close friends.

So what does this have to do with me?

"Team 1.21 Gigawatts" is looking for sponsorship. We're looking to raise as much money for War Child as possible. We're also willing to do ridiculous antics during our journey in exchange for sponsorship. (in fact, I'm willing to do them for free, but the aim of the game is to raise money so...)
Oh, I see... you want us to cough up some cash?
Well, yes. of course.
The Dumball 08 is taking place during May, and will be video blogged by the three of us. I'll be working my technicians magic bringing you juicy live clips, realtime GPS feeds, daily video and diary blog posts and other little fun things to keep you in the loop. I'll even try to get photos of when I gets arrested in Sarajevo - although these will come at a small premium sponsorship price.
Ok, I'm fairly convinced. What do I need to do now?
Empty your piggy bank.

We are looking for pledges and sponsorship. We have set up a justgiving account if anyone would like to make donations to the cause.
All the expenses are paid out of our own pockets. Every penny raised will go straight to War Child. No amount is too small or too large to donate.
It's looking very much like it's going to be an absolutely madcap rally - a perfect place for me to blend in and look inconspicuous.
Thanks in advance to anyone who decides to sponsor this worthy event Smiley

I think this is a great idea! Smiley
Will think up suitably ridiculous antic, and then post back (along with a donation of course!).

I think he should change his name to something suitably embarrassing and bear the wrath of all of his colleagues.
Oh wait, that's already been done.
Seriously though, great idea Smiley

I still don't see how you can be called Team 1.21 Gigawatts if you're not driving a DeLorean...

Re: Help Please - The Dumball Rally 2008

No. no.. you have to be "Dumb Enough"
And tbh, picking up a car for £102 on eBay with a view to converting it into a DeLorean....
When none of the three of us have any mechanical experience....
Then driving it c. 2000 miles in total across Europe.....
"and all for chaaaaarity, mate"....
I think that qualifies us Grin Grin

Not fair!!  You're bound to win.  All you need to do, is get up to 86 mph, and pop back to a week before the start, so you get a week's head start on everyone else.
The only danger is that you miscalculate and finish before you started, thereby giving away your dastardly plan Angry

Surely it's 88mph?

If Barry can make that car fly, well... well, I'll be really really jealous, that's what.
