Heatwave

Summer heatwave begins with 30°C heat and chance of hottest year since record-breaking 2006 - but the bad news is it won't start until next weekend
Just our luck, as we're off to Hawaii !!
Predicted Temperature there of 28°C

Re: Heatwave

2006 may have had record-breaking highest temperatures but it was nowhere near as sustained as the 1976 heatwave which, from memory, lasted from early June to late august. I sat my 'O' Level that year and remember we couldn't always have the doors and windows open because of the noise outside Sad
Compared to '76 '06 was a breeze Wink

Re: Heatwave

Ah newspapers and their sensational bull, they act like summer has never happened, then when warm temperatures come as they usually do at about the same time every year, it's a heatwave, it's not a heatwave, it's just warmer weather, a heatwave would be say, 35+ degrees for 2 weeks solid... Re: Heatwave

Where do they get it from? And why do they say it? This Friday looks like being the warmest day for the next ten days according to the Met Office. What heatwave?

Re: Heatwave

Thursday should be the sunniest day this week, with highs of around 22-24C over southeast England and East Anglia.
But while temperatures will climb further on Friday, there could be more puddle-hopping than sausage-barbecuing.

Re: Heatwave

Definition of "heat wave":
1. an air mass of high temperature covering an extended area and moving relatively slowly.
2. a period of abnormally hot and usually humid weather.

I don't consider the start of summer to be "abnormally hot", and I don't consider 22 to 24 Degrees Celsius to be high temperature, so someone's talking bow locks in the media (and others repeating it too!!)... Grin

IMHO there's a case for banning the re-reporting of media headlines just for the sake of it, especially DM ones. If they are part of a more involved discussion then that's fine, but not for the sake of repeating the headline.

Mattresses turned over.. and it's still a glorious day at 5pm.

Excellent preparation for our trip next week...

The 3.5 Tog quilt was a good decision.
Today is supposed to be the hottest day of the year yet...
Clear Blue sky this morning, with a nice orange glow to the dawn...
But, Shepherds warning
http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/learning/learn-about-the-weather/how-weather-works/red-sky-at-night
The mercury is set to hit 26ºC (78.8ºF) in the South East today, beating this year's previous record high of 25.6ºC (78.08ºF), which was registered in Faversham, Kent, on 15 April.
The warm temperature will come only after thunderstorms and heavy showers are expected to hit, prompting the Met Office to put out yellow weather warnings for rain in London and south-east England, the East of England, East Midlands and Yorkshire and the Humber.

Isn't that a bit over kill aircon & open windows? You are loosing the benefit of the aircon having the windows open.
