Headlights blinding drivers say the RAC.

No kidding Sherlock, especially those blue tinted high intensity ones made even worse when the Muppets don't dip 'em.

They are a nighttime nightmare.

Re: Headlights blinding drives say the RAC.

I was talking about this very subject at work the other night. Modern cars headlights are sodding blinding.

Re: Headlights blinding drives say the RAC.

I seem to recall Halfords had in their bulb range, headlight bulb replacements with "up to 150% more light on the road and a longer range" white light.

Some of these bulbs were marked as 'not public road legal'....which was sure to put people off fitting them to the family hatchback.

Re: Headlights blinding drives say the RAC.

I don't have any issues with modern headlamps blinding me.

I do have issues with the following:

Idiots who fit these illegal retrofit HID kits thinking they look cool.

People who don't keep there headlamp lenses clean.

People that don't replace failed bulbs - you often see several bulbs not working.

Re: Headlights blinding drives say the RAC.

The LED lights I find annoying are ones on bicycles. There seems to be no beam shaping at all and the light spreads across the whole road and no vertical cut-off. At least with car headlights, if they're dipped, even the LEDs are not too blinding.

Now Zen, but a +Net residue.

Best thing ever those lights on bikes, and no 'beam shaping" necessary as that would defeat the object of being seen clearly both during the day and at night.

Thats because the light beam is focused to the left - in europe they're focused to the right. It's nothing to do with LEDs.

I need a new signature... i'm bored of the old one!

Meanwhile, us pedestrians are blinded by the dipped lights that are aimed to the left where all the footpaths tend to be........

Re: Headlights blinding drives say the RAC.

Part of the cause is cars driving over various humps, potholes and other rubbish, causing the headlight beams to swing wildly (even if they are properly adjusted dipped ones).

What annoys me are the drivers who park on my side of the road facing the oncoming traffic (e.g. me) with their headlights on Angry

Re: Headlights blinding drives say the RAC.

My cars all have in cabin adjustable headlight vertical aiming, to compensate for increased loads, causing the headlights to beam sightly upwards.

I'm sure many other cars do too, perhaps drivers are not aware of this, or can't be bothered adjusting them depending on load ?

But I'm sure in the majority of cases it is just bad vertical alignment.

Really obvious when it is just one headlight that is aiming high.

And of course, selfish / ignorant drivers that just don't dip their headlights with oncoming traffic......

I do like the automatic dimming rear view mirrors, for prats behind with bright lights..

Same for door mirrors.
